  13. I'm trying to install kpathsea, xdvik, dvipsk, etc. on our system here,
  14. and I'm not putting them in /usr/local.  (For the simple reason that I'm
  15. not the system manager and I don't have write access thereto; eventually
  16. I'll get him to install them properly, but he's overworked and I'd like
  17. to get the bugs out before handing things to him.)  Anyway, after
  18. several hours trying to track down a bug I've realized that the kpathsea
  19. library has "/usr/local/lib/texmf" and things like that hardcoded into
  20. the source code!  Not retrieved from environment variables, nor even
  21. from Makefile variables.  Why is this, and do you have a version that
  22. uses Makefile variables for this stuff?
